Dear Simle Parents:
We are in need of parents for our Parent Advisory Committee (PAC). We welcome all parents to be a part of their child's education here at Simle. I understand that parents may not be able to make every meeting, we would be happy to welcome you any time you can attend a meeting. We meet on the third Thursday of each month from 11:45-12:45. We will provide lunch if you call ahead and let us know you will be in attendance. I appreciate your help and consideration in this matter. Feel free to contact myself or a PAC member if you have any questions. You can access our PAC through the Simle website or email us at simlepac@gmail.com.
Sincerely, Mr. Riehl, Principal

PAC Minutes
 SIMLE PAC MINUTES Thursday - April 19, 2012 11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. Simle Conference Room
In attendance, Assistant Principal Mari Fridgen, Sandy Brodie, Solli Frank, Mike Kraft, Jean Kraft and Kjersti Seideman.
Call to Order - The PAC meeting was called to order.
Student Council Update - Student Representatives reported on their recent visits to Horizon Middle School and Wachter Middle School. During their visits, they found the art hallway at Horizon very interesting. The art projects are separated between grades. At Wachter, water is provided in plastic cups to the students during lunch They talked about a few ideas for Spirit Week including trivia, a teacher's breakfast and possibly dress up days during the week. The NDASC spring Student Council Conference will take place the end of April at the Ramkota. The conference will include speakers and discussions about fun ideas for next year's student council.
Approval of Minutes - President Sandie Brodie made a motion to approve the minutes from the March 15, 2012 meeting. Solli Frank seconded the motion. The motion was approved. Committee Meetings and Reports: 9th Grade Party Committee: Assistant Principal Mari Fridgen reported for Donna Wilson that the planning for the 9th grade bowling party is going very well. The donations are still coming in. She still has not heard back from Sam's Club. She was hoping to receive paper product donations from them and gloves for serving. The committee has received $550 in monetary donations. She reported they have 6 volunteers plus 2 more volunteers for going back and forth to pick up pizzas for the evening. She reported they are still in need of 6 to 7 more volunteers for serving, mingling, picture taking and prizes at the party. Donna spoke to Kathy about talking to the art club about making posters for around the school to remind the students of the event. Staff Appreciation Committee: Mike and Jean Kraft reported that Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up the beginning of May. They are still looking at ideas for showing appreciation to the teachers for all they do for the students. In previous years, they had giveaways, canisters to pick out names, music cd's and plants. If possible, the committee was asked to try to keep the cost below $500 for appreciation week. Concessions Committee: Math Counts still needs to be paid for their support at the last winter school dance. Scholarship Committee: Need to get together as soon as possible to review the scholarship applications so the students will have time to prepare a speech. The scholarship awards will be handed out at the Presidential Award Ceremony on May 2nd. PAC volunteers are needed to assist with the ceremony. Kathy will send out an email to request volunteers. Treasurer's Report: Current balance is $8,538.58 as of April 19, 2012. There are still some outstanding liabilities. In comparison to last year, it appears PAC spent more money on the family pledge dinners this year, but spent about the same amount of money for the Sparklers. We still need to look at other options for fundraisers to raise more money. Administration School Report: Assistant Principal Mari Fridgen reported 9th grade students that are not receiving awards the day of the Presidential Award Ceremony remain in class. She reported the students are very busy with activities this spring. A question was asked about how the school handles unruly students. The students are removed from the classroom by the principal. If necessary, an SRO can be contacted for assistance. The school has a white room/safety room for students that misbehave or just need a time out. It is located near the principal's office. The room has no outlets and contains a table and chairs. One of the security resource officers (SROs) was injured recently and is out of commission for the rest of the year. They are currently down to 3 SROs that are shared between the middle schools and high schools. We also discussed due to the budget, there are no school nurses at the schools to assist with medication distribution. Currently, the school secretaries are administering the medication to students.
Old Business None. New Business Look at ideas on how we can get more parents involved in PAC. The next PAC Meeting will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2012 Respectfully submitted, Kjersti Seideman, Secretary
